Job Summary:
CSA Group has an immediate opportunity for an Regional Technical Lead based in Europe to join their Field Evaluations team as a part of globally structured organization to run multi-national and local projects. As a one-time evaluation program, CSA Group’s field evaluation services help manufacturers get their products into the North American market when certification is not a viable option yet proof of compliance to local requirements is still needed. Regional Technical Lead's responsibility is; with support from the technical management team, for setting CSA’s technical benchmarks at levels which meet the requirements of our accreditation while keeping CSA competitive in the market on Field Evaluation business.
In collaboration with the Technical Management, will provide a high level of timely technical support and leadership within their designated area. They ensure that CSA Group services globally are delivered consistently using a combination of training, technical oversight, thorough documentation and effective communication of technical decisions and interpretations.
Makes technical decisions based on a high level of knowledge, training and professional experience to maintain the integrity of CSA’s global certification programs. Act as a backup to the PTL (as applicable) in various activities including but not limited to, technical support, staff training, participation in assigned Standard committees.

Makes technical decisions based on a high level of knowledge, training and professional experience to maintain the integrity of CSA’s global certification programs. Act as a backup to the PTL (as applicable) in various activities including but not limited to, technical support, staff training, participation in assigned Standard committees.
Responsibilities:
- Handles a wide spectrum of projects including those that are complex and perform technical evaluations of non-certified equipment according to specified standards and codes (e.g. NEC, UL, CEC, NFPA 790 & 791, SPE-1000, and SPE-3000)
- Document, with sufficient detail, technical reports for required alterations to sub-standard equipment. Reviews details of corrective action with client.
- Conduct research cand collaborate with colleagues on technical and procedural issues, including: technical research on standards, Field Evaluation Guidelines. Collaborates with Engineering, Lab and colleagues with respect to procedural issues, interpretation and past practices.
- Provides necessary guidance to Field Evaluation Representatives to ensure proper application of requirements.
- Works with the commercial unit to support current clients and develop new client opportunities to support growth.
- Develops an SME level knowledge of designated business areas through collaboration with the Technical Management and Principal Technical Lead, and as required by active participation in relevant strategic standards committees, interacting with other industry SMEs, reading books/journals/research/white papers, and monitoring industry news and forums, attending technical workshops and conferences, etc.
- Works with the Technical Management and Principal Technical Lead, on the development and maintenance of technical requirements including the creation of innovative solutions for multi-disciplinary technologies/products that are not addressed by currently published requirements.
- Reviews, assesses, and audits staff engaged in field evaluation work to ensure technical consistency and competence across the organization and the network members.
- With or without Technical Management/Principal Technical Lead support as applicable develops training materials and may deliver and/or arrange for training of technical staff in the assigned product/standard area under the direction of, and in support of, Operations and Technical Training and Qualifications Team.
- Supports Commercial/Marketing business development activities through creation/review/delivery of white papers, marketing material, webinars, and presentations at tradeshows and industry forums and may be asked to provide training to Commercial staff and/or customers.
- As a backup to Principal Technical Lead, sets technical benchmarks for qualifications, programs, and technical requirements.
- Develops and delivers training for technical staff with support and guidance from the Technical Training and Qualifications function and the Principal Technical Lead/Technical Management.
- Supports Technical Training and Qualifications with the development and maintenance of the CSA Group training system.
- Supports standards research activities as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 8 years or equivalent of related experience or Engineering Technologist/Technician diploma or Certified Engineering Technologist/Technician, Licensed Trades with 8 years or equivalent industry experience
- Ability to travel as needed and/or with short notice (up to 75% travel)
- Strong Knowledge of:
- U.S. and/or Canadian based electrical standards and ability to apply these standards to local installation requirements and/or codes (eg. NEC, CEC, NFPA 790 & 791, SPE-1000, and SPE-3000)
- IEC, NEC, NFPA and UL standards and Variety of test procedures
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and test data.
- Ability to use calibrated measurement instruments, high voltage test equipment, hand tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills; self-starter; good decision-making skills and organizational skills.
- Presentation skills are essential.
- Ability to make contact with Field Evaluation staff and management at CSA worldwide.
- Ability to interact with regulators, clients, and other certification agency staff when participating in the standards development process.
- Ability to work with Network Members as part of the audit and training function.
- Ability to manage multiple inspection files and changing schedules and deadlines with supervision.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to apply logic and discover root causes.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Strong conflict resolution skills to be able to handle difficult situations.
