Summary Job Description:

Direct Relief gGmbH, also known as Direct Relief Europe, is a German non-profit company and a wholly owned subsidiary of Direct Relief, a California non-profit corporation. The Managing Director for Direct Relief Europe, will reside in Germany and serve as the chief executive of the organization, furthering Direct Relief’s mission from Frankfurt, Germany while aligning with Direct Relief’s global humanitarian goals. This individual will oversee key aspects of the Frankfurt Office, including fundraising, staff management, and stake-holder relations. The Managing Director will work closely with Direct Relief’s senior leadership in California to ensure alignment with the organization's overall mission and strategic goals.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Frankfurt Office and report all matters that are relevant to the business and performance of the organization to Direct Relief headquarters in California, consistent with the Management Rules of Procedure.
  • Collaborate with Direct Relief’s senior leadership to develop and implement long-term strategies for the organization’s growth and success.
  • Review quarterly financial reports with Direct Relief’s CFO and contribute to financial planning and budgeting to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with donor companies, business leaders, government agencies, and regional stakeholders.
  • Drive regional fundraising efforts and explore new revenue streams to support Direct Relief gGmbH operations and Direct Relief’s broader humanitarian mission.
  • Attend shareholder meetings and prepare reports to the parent organization when requested.
  • Report to Direct Relief all matters that are relevant to the business and performance of Direct Relief gGmbH.
  • Coordinate human resources management with Direct Relief’ VP of People Operations. Lead and manage a local team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and impact.
  • Maintain Direct Relief’s processes for its product/resources management and ensure effective communications among the Direct Relief and Direct Relief gGmbH with respect to inventory management and placement.
  • Represent Direct Relief gGmbH at public forums, conferences, and industry events.
  • In coordination with Direct Relief’s VP of Legal & Regulatory Affairs, ensure compliance with local laws, regulations and Direct Relief’s standard operating procedures
  • Monitor and evaluate program impact, making data-driven adjustments as needed.


Desired Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in nonprofit management (at least some of relevant experience should be in Germany), with a focus on regional office operations or program management.


Skills:

  • Strong leadership, management, and communication skills.
  • Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Proven ability to lead fundraising efforts and build relationships with donors.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience in nonprofit leadership, ideally in an international or regional context.
  • Strong financial and compliance acumen with experience in budgeting and financial oversight.

Travel Requirements:

The Managing Director will reside in Germany and must be willing to travel as needed. Travel is estimated to be 25-50%, depending on the needs of the region and the needs of Direct Relief’s headquarters in California and its 3PL in The Netherlands.
