Amphenol Mobile Consumer Products (MCP) provides a broad range of components in multiple markets, with presence on more than 50% of the world’s mobile devices produced each year. Amphenol MCP designs and manufactures antennas, interconnect products, and other components found in mobile phones and other mobile devices, as well as antennas for automotive and other markets. Our capability for high-volume production of these technically demanding, miniaturized products, combined with our speed of new product introduction, is a critical factor for our success in these markets.

The Job

Summary

We are seeking an Antenna Design Engineer for our Automotive R&D team based in Frankfurt, Germany. You will be responsible for new technology and solution development for automotive antennas and related products. You will be based in Frankfurt, Germany.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• To independently design and develop specific antennas for automotive applications in infotainment, telematics, and related communications protocols
• To lead a team to complete development activities, including allocation of different tasks to different engineers
• To explore cutting-edge technologies and track and monitor industry design trends
• To develop innovative solutions with challenging technical and product requirements; and to be able to present such solution to customers
• To cooperate with other internal functions to ensure your design can be implemented in leading /cutting edge products successfully
• To draft technical specifications, design guidelines and related documents for new solutions.
• To meet with customers and lead technical review with customers, and provide on-site technical support for customer design/field test activities
• To lead design certification activities with external test labs
• Some travel will be required, including occasional international travel to USA and Asia. Approximately 10% - 15% of total work time may be dedicated to business travel.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate has a degree in a relevant field. We are looking for a recognized professional with the following attributes:

• BSEE required. Advanced degree in electromagnetics/RF is highly preferred. Candidates with degrees in other engineering disciplines will be considered, if coupled with significant experience in automotive RF.
• 5+ years of experience in automotive RF with at least 3 years in antenna design
• 1+ year experience as a technical lead
• Experience in antenna technologies and applications specific to the automotive industry
• Must have deep understanding of electromagnetic theory, microwave and antenna design.
• Significant knowledge of AM/FM, SDARS, GNSS, RKE, 4G/5G LTE, 802.11, Bluetooth, DSRC, and C-V2X, including the corresponding system level specifications.
• Proficiency, hands-on skills with FEKO antenna simulation tool (or related tools such as CST-MWS and HFSS.)
• Experience of tackling key technical problems or innovative designs independently.
• Proactive and self-motivated. Curiosity and sensitivity for science, technology and engineering are essential.
• This position will require a variety of skills and cover many varied tasks; therefore flexibility, an ability to work independently, and move “outside the comfort zone” will be essential to success.
• Good team spirit and communication skills.
• Fluency in both written and verbal English and German
