About The Team

You'll join JSM's commercial team, reporting to our Chief Quantity Surveyor. Since 1998, JSM has grown into a high-margin, high-growth business backed by private equity, delivering long-term frameworks for major clients across gas, power, telecoms and multi-utility infrastructure.

The commercial team leads from the front rather than reporting the numbers after the fact, working closely with operational delivery, site management and leadership to keep cost, risk and programme aligned across a portfolio of civil engineering and utility contracts. There's a clear path to progress into Commercial Manager roles, chartership support along the way, and hybrid working that's a genuine mix of site, office and home rather than a policy on paper.

About The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll report to the Chief Quantity Surveyor and take commercial ownership of a portfolio of civil engineering and utility contracts — from pricing and tendering through to valuations and final accounts. You'll manage risk, drive value, and act as the commercial voice at the table for both operational and leadership teams.

Day to day, you will:

• Build and maintain subcontractor relationships — negotiating rates, assessing applications and agreeing variations
• Lead tendering and bid submissions, including pricing, terms and conditions, and commercial assessments
• Own monthly valuations, applications for payment and variations control
• Produce accurate cost reports and CVRs across multiple high-value contracts
• Implement and maintain strong commercial systems and recordkeeping, and identify risk before it becomes an issue
• Collaborate with delivery teams to align commercial and project goals, and mentor junior team members
  
  

This role is hybrid, with regular travel between site and office as contracts require.

Experience

Essential

• Solid experience in civil engineering or utilities, gained across pre- and post-contract commercial work
• End-to-end project experience: pricing and tendering through to valuations and final accounts
• Experience managing subcontractor accounts, including rate negotiation, application assessment and variations
  
  

Desirable

• Experience in the gas sector specifically
• Experience mentoring or line-managing junior commercial staff
  
  

Essential

Requirements & Qualifications

• Degree, HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related field, or equivalent time-served experience
• Confident working knowledge of NEC, JCT and bespoke contract forms
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and commercial systems (e.g. Envision)
• Full UK driving licence / right to work in the UK

• Chartered or incorporated status (MRICS/MCIOB), or working towards it
