Project Development Manager (Germany) - #2629256
Gülermak Renewables
We’re building our Germany team from the ground up, and you’ll be one of our first colleagues in the country. You’ll also become part of a diverse and international team based in the UK and Poland, collaborating closely across functions and projects.
This is an exciting time for us, and we’re looking for Project Development Managers who would like to be part of this journey.
What you’ll be doing:
- Identify, originate, and progress renewable energy development opportunities across the German market, focusing on Solar PV, Onshore Wind, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Lead site feasibility assessments, including desktop reviews and on-site evaluations, to assess technical, environmental, planning, and commercial viability of new opportunities.
- Drive projects through the full development lifecycle, from early-stage origination and feasibility through permitting and consent, up to Ready-to-Build (RtB) status.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with project developers, landowners, consultants, local authorities, grid operators (DNO/TSO), and regulatory bodies to support project development and investment activities.
- Manage interfaces with statutory consultees, regulatory bodies, municipalities, and relevant agencies during planning and permitting processes.
- Coordinate grid connection activities, including managing applications, reviewing technical requirements, and liaising with DNO/TSO to secure grid capacity and approvals.
- Coordinate and manage key project inputs such as layouts, access routes, cable routing, noise studies, fire safety, and other technical documentation required to support planning applications.
- Optimise preliminary project designs, including system sizing, technology selection, and equipment configuration, working closely with internal engineering and external technical consultants.
- Work closely with internal procurement, commercial, engineering, financial, and legal teams who are based in the UK to support both development and investment decision-making.
- Support M&A and investment teams in evaluating acquisition opportunities through technical and development due diligence, including reviewing survey outputs (e.g., geotechnical, flood risk, environmental, and noise studies).
- Identify and establish joint development partnerships and collaborate with developers to advance projects through development milestones.
- Support negotiations with landowners, developers, and stakeholders to secure land rights and development agreements where required.
- Represent the company in industry meetings, stakeholder engagements, and negotiations across the German renewable energy market.
- Monitor market developments, regulatory changes, and permitting requirements in Germany, sharing insights and contributing to development and investment strategy.
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment by sharing lessons learned, market intelligence, and best practices across projects and regions.
What we’re looking for:
- 4+ years of experience in renewable energy project development, preferably across Solar PV, Onshore Wind, and/or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Proven experience in developing renewable energy projects in Germany, with a strong understanding of local permitting, planning, and grid connection processes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects through multiple development stages, from early feasibility through permitting and towards Ready-to-Build (RtB).
- Strong knowledge of German regulatory frameworks, including permitting pathways, environmental requirements, and stakeholder engagement processes.
- Experience working with grid operators (DNO/TSO) and managing grid connection applications and requirements.
- Experience coordinating technical studies such as environmental assessments, noise studies, grid studies, and geotechnical investigations.
- Familiarity with technical aspects of Solar, Wind, and BESS system design, including layouts, system sizing, and site optimisation.
- Experience supporting due diligence processes for project acquisitions or investments is highly desirable.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with developers, landowners, consultants, local authorities, and regulators.
- Excellent project management skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project economics and development risks.
- Fluency in German and English, both written and spoken, is essential.
- Willingness to travel within Germany for site visits, stakeholder meetings, and project activities.
- A valid driving licence is typically required for site-based development roles.
